Ok you Case experts,I have a friend that suddenly is having hyd problems
He adds a gallon of hyd fluid to hyd,And the lift arms and loader works fine for a while but it is low again in an hour
Is it leaking into the rearend casing?
I personally haven't looked at it yet but maybe you can give me headsup as to what to look for???
Im pretty much a Ford repairman
Thanks for any info
Pete

There is a very good chance that the 3pt hitch piston is leaking. To access it's repair, take the seat suspension off, unhook the 3pt lift links, and take the cover off the rearend. The piston is in it. The large pivot shaft just slides out when the arms are removed to access the piston. There are also some shaft seals farther forward in tranny that could also be a colpret. To check the 3pt piston, weight the 3pt and let the tractor set with the hitch up and see if it settles.
This gets discussed very often so check the Case arcives.

Adirondack Case guy,
Sounds like a good place to start on the problem,I was hoping for a easy, quick fix but I think I have my work cut out for me.
I do have manuals on 400,Am I correct in saying it is the same hyd.style??
Thanks again
Pete

As long as your manual is for 400B series tractor. There were two very different 400s and 500s, but you mentioned hitch arms so that eliminated the Racine built 500 and 400. For further questions refer to the 400and 500Bs.
If the arms leak down, it shouldn't take you much over 30min to remove the piston and seals.
CNH is pretty spendy on the seals and there are a couple of variations. I would go to a hydraulic shop and have them fit seals.

I will look into it next week,Just trieng to get info in advance
Definitely described to me as losing hyd oil after running for maybe 1 hour
no external leaks
thanks
