Been working on a 2090, customer says the power shift is hard to shift after a while. Hooked up gauges as per service manual and all are at spec. I did noticed that when I shifted to third power shift there was a vibration. What is causing that? Then when I pulled the test fittings from the shift valve I noticed there was a small amount of metal in the oil. I'm guessing that's what is causing the hard shift when it gets warm.

Hi John, could you explain what you mean by a hard shift. The metal in the oil is not good, lets get the hyd. filters changed so dirty stuff does not by-pass the filters and get into the control valve anymore. That vibration can be several things, for some reason in 20-2290 tractors the ball brg that centers the planetary gear carrier in the powershift likes to wear out the bore it sits in. Or the button brgs as they are called can be worn off the outer ring gear. Or perhaps a brg that carries the powershift. Regardless of what ever the problem is the tractor would have to be torn down to correct it. Rod.

When I test drove the tractor it seamed once it was up to temp the power shift was hard to shift through the gears up and down (moving the lever).Pulled filters out and found some trash inside the housing under the filters. Going to pull the shift valve tomorrow and clean out all the ports. I have also drained out all oil. Thanks for the info.

The cable for the PS lever can get tight but most of the time they better when warm. Could be the control spool in the valve gets tight and moves harder also, Rod.
