159 cu. in. gase

does the 159 cu. in gas engine fit where the 148 cu. in was, like in a 430? I know its longer . just was wondering what needs to be done to make it fit.

The 148 ci & 159 ci spark ignition engines are the same length. The 188 ci spark ignition and deisel engines are about 1.5 inches longer.

The later 148 B series & 159 engines should interchange. There will be something you'll need to deal with (there always is), but it won't be the dimension of the engine.

thanks for that info. the one in the tractor is deffinatley a 148B now the other one was out of a combine and no model no. but is definatley longer, so can I assume it is the 188 cu. in? if so is it at all possible to put it in where the 148 was? thanks for any info.

If it is a 188 or 201 from a combine.... It's my understanding it
will "bolt up", but you're signing up for more challenges. For
one, the governor setup is different. There are some other
issues as well including lengthening the tin work over the
engine.

I saw a combine engine installed in a 430 several years ago.
The owner said he was advised he could repower his 430 with
the 201 but he ran into several issues that made the
conversion a pain in the hindquarters. It looked kinda cheesy
as well. For some reason he had to abandon the stock 430 air
filter oil bath, and in its place be bolted an air cleaner on the
side of the engine....

The simple answer to your query is the a 188 or 201 will work
in your 430, but whatever you are allocating for cost and time
is likely well below reality....

thanks very much for the info. to bad cause I think it mite be a good engine. but sounds like to much work to adapt. thanks again for the info.

My 500b with a 201. You need to put the front engine timing cover on it with a governor. Then you will need to switch the throttle shaft in the carburetor to mount it the same way as the one you have now. A little tin work and you are off!

No, the radiator is mounted to the front casting and that simply moves ahead with the longer engine and the radiator is in the same relationship. The steering shaft needs lengthened 1 1/4" hood and governor as stated in the other post, it's not a bad swap. Have done several. The 188-201 will not bolt to the smaller bell housing but with a little thought will bolt right to the two starter bolt housing as used in the large housing opening.

wow thanks for all that info. so do I understand you in saying I cant use my present 148 bellhousing? did these motors get put in any tractors or just combines? this on had a direct coupled pulley behind it.

the 188 gas was used in the 630 but the 201 was never stock in a tractor and has a belt driven governor.

If you are putting it in a 430 the bellhousing/ engine are the same, no starter problems.
