Case guy, Are those black locusts posts on your shed in the thread below?
That is what I use for barn and shed posts here in NW SC.

Thanks, I have black locust poles in a shed that have been there 36 years. My dad built a barn about 1952 using black locust poles and it is still standing.

Loren,

Are there any other uses for ironwood that you know of? We use it exclusively for firewood. It's almost like burning coal. Don

Don, around here Ironwood doesn't grow too big and branches out about 8-12'. As for fire wood it is my number one choice. It is called "ironwood" for a reason. I have a lot of it spread through my wood pile in the shed, and sort it out for my overnight fire. Doesn't take long to dull a chain on the saw either.

Someone gave me a piece of ironwood to make a pitman for a JD #5 mower. It is still in my shop somewhere. Heaviest wood I have ever seen.
