Tractor is completed and COM runs out well. We started with the COM showing low pressure under 1400 rpm and slippage was very obvious when operating and loading it down using the brakes. I believe the multi-clutch was slipping as it pulled the same whether in COM or DD and you could feel the DD catch hold when shifted into that position. 3 things needed attention, the bushing in the output shaft, the ball brgs on output shaft and the piston that locks the multi-clutch. Those items and new seals installed have made this unit operate properly. Have great clutch pressure at a slow idle now and there is no more slipping of ether COM or DD, just the normal torque converter slip. The owner will be grinning from ear to ear when he gets a chance to operate it. I hope it does not take another 20 years for me to get a chance rebuild another one. Rod.

So Rod, would you say that it was "normal" wear and tear for a machine that age and had worked as it was designed. Just wondering. gobble

Tom my gut feeling is this unit was serviced before. Some items looked to darn good for being 50 years old and you could see evidence that it had been wrenched on. If clean quality oil is kept in this unit and operated properly I see no reason why I would have to mess with it for another 50, LOL. Rod.

Just my opinion and I am entitled to it. That model 830 is one of the best Case tractors ever made. Nothing like hearing the rythem from that crank as that motor reaches it's peak torque on a pto driven chopper.

Whoa Whoa Jerry are old 700 at PTO speed on the 69 NH hayliner sounded great in 4th gear. "Back-n-Day" Pulling 4 14's in the fall was a great sound too. Jerry I gota admit never drove 830 com hee hee you maybe right. God Bless

Rod: Not a bad looking ol'e girl. She's had good care, considering her age, I'm referring to your photo. One question: At idle, with clutch depressed, do the gears stop rolling so they don't grate? When I restored my 800, I couldn't believe it, even cold, the gears don't roll, any.

Rod, just thinking outloud here (LOL). If a 30 series with a poorly functioning or non-functioning COM were to become available. What might be a dollar estimate for a remove and repair/rebuild run? Not trying to put you in a box, just trying to educate myself prior to a possible herd expansion. Thanks gobble

if anyone ever needs one ,, I have a good one that came out of 63 -830 with a bad motor ,,i thought I needed it for my 800 ,found it 5 yrs ago , but my 800 is runnin out good now ,, but it does grate the gears a little when cold

I to have an 830 CK with COM, bought it back in 80, it was neglected on maintenance, had cracked heads and the bearings were on the copper, most of the COM filter was in the cooler, I'm sure it was never changed as well as the hyd filter was never changed. I petty much went through it but have never messed with the COM and it still works well, only it gains fluid from the rear end and always did, I just drain a gallon out now and then and pour it back in the rear. I still have TCH in it and it drags quite a bit when its cold, hot doesn't bother. I'm going to change the COM and rear this spring and plan to use Hy-Tran Ultra, how does that compare to TCH for drag? I had to split mine about 10 years ago cause the flywheel came loose, if the COM ever needs attention you can have the job. I always enjoy your pictures.

They will roll a little when it is first started with cold oil, run it a bit and it shifts fine. It operated like that before I worked on it and from the others I have drove seems perfectly normal. I have never driven one that did not scratch a bit when cold. If I depress the clutch and wait a couple second before trying to shift it is less prone to have the gears rolling I have found, Rod.

Mike my guess is there is little difference in drag between the two oils. Sounds like your COM proves how tough they are, if kept in clean oil they are durable units. Think about how many TA's some fella's went through in the same amount of years, they can't say to many things bad about that ole Case Slip-a-matic as some would call them. Rod.

Find all this talk about how to shift the com very interesting.Have a 800 gas com, can not shift without using the clutch, if you brake without using the clutch I believe it would kill the engine.Has no slip when braking but you can feel it lock up when you pull the lever and speed up just a little. Guess I need an op manual.

Have any problems starting? I have a 730 COM in the shop right now but we cant seem it get it started. we bled the lines it cranks over lots of white smoke and with ether it will start to run on its own but then it dies?
any suggestions? thanks
