I went to an auction yesterday. Snowing blowing, nasty weather, with only 2 tractors listed. A 505 Super I baler on it and not much for junk. Drug my trailer with me as I knew I was going to come home with a 730 gasser, with a cab and 320 DUAL loader on it. They sold everything else first, and I figured since the baler was the smaller baler, I could buy it for around $500, that was the starting bid. Think it ended up at $3850.
Finally got to the 730. Figured it would bring about $2500 tops. No one wants a gas tractor, and it was a bit rough. Dumb thing ended up at $4000.
Guess my auction days are over.

It was a Comfort King. In all honesty it was probably worth what it brought, but the loader was rough, the cab had been farmerized, and up until all these ranchers got their drought handouts and calf checks for unheard of money, it would have brought what I expected.
I am good friends with a tractor jockey who was there, and he figured it would bring in the lo 2000 dollar range. Figured the baler just had an extra zero on it.
Last fall I watched a beat all to pieces yellow 970 with a Farmhand 225? loader sell for $5000. There again the tractor jockey and I figured 2500 was all it was worth. Needed tires, the loader remounted so it didn't rub the hood, and LOTS of TLC to get where it was at all usable.
Guess I am a tight wad, but I'll be patient, and find a loader tractor that is priced in my range.
The cattle market is already starting to correct itself.

Like it or not the market price for that tractor was set at the auction. I have a mentality that I should get something for what "I" thinks its worth. Needless to say, it rarely works out that way for me. But like you I'll keep trying. lol gobble

A Vermeer 505 super I for $500? If it was in any condition, the $3850 would have been a steal of a deal in my area of MN. The F and G balers still bring well over $2,000 if they work at all. I looked at several super I balers last year, and they were priced at $6,000-$9,500 on dealer lots. And yes, they sold them by the start of haying season.

No body around here wants the smaller baler. I stopped and talked to the local yellow dealer last night. He said the last Super I he had in, he got $1250 out of it.
As I said, I'll be patient. The prices will come back to reality. The ranchers will blow there big checks, rather then pay income taxes, and poor little me will be back to buying the older smaller equipment.

yep ,, went to auction last week and saw a 6 cyl .gasser ihc with new rears and decent loader bring 5200 , that's almost what it will cost to run gas thru it in one year .. lol /, next they sold the 630 gasser with freeman loader , I figured in that hi dollar crowd it would bring 3 grand plus , I got her for 1200 . folx were coming up to me later and said they were not watchin the case sell as the folx were all talkin about the hi dollar ihc ....last summer at moms auction all my 730 gasser e-hitch could bring was 800 bux , ,, I kept it ,,,it just runs too good to give away..
