I have been told and read on forums that Racine built tractors were negative grounded. The racine manufactured's serial # begins with 8. Rock islands were supposedly positive grounded and serial #'s begin with 6. My tractor is a 1962 440 with serial # 800****, so it is Racine manufactured. HOWEVER my repair manual differentiates positive and negative grounds by serial #'s not production sites so anything before 831***** was positive grounded and anything after that was negative grounded....I just don't want to mess anything up...so I wonder which is it that determines positive from negative....production site or serial #s??
