During my travels I have found a J.I. Case Agri King 870 Demonstrator Serial Number 8659863 and am inquiring if this tractor is a real Demonstrator tractor or a Clone that someone made by painting this tractor black with dessert tan fenders and put Demonstrator decals on it.

I am interested in buying this tractor to add to my J.I. Case Agri King collection if it is a real Demonstrator.
Will someone let me know if Serial Number 8659863 is truly a Demonstrator.

If the serial number is not useful to determine if this tractor is a real Demonstrator what other things will indicate if it is a real Demonstrator.

This fender tractor is in fair condition:
• Complete tractor needs repainted and new decals installed
• Front fiberglass nose piece is damaged (like most fiberglass nose pieces usually are)
• Fenders are slightly damaged
• Rear Tires 18.4 – 34 that are about 50% Tread Life
• Front Tires need replaced
• No cab installed
• 5,000 Engine Hours (if the hour meter is correct)
• History not known (but does not appear to have been stored inside most of its life)

If this tractor is a real Demonstrator what is it worth in fair condition.

If this tractor is not a real Demonstrator what is it worth in fair condition.

Thanks for all your help in advance!

To the best of my knowledge the Demonstrators in 1970 and Black Knights in 1971 had a second tag with the serial tag with the dealership information

there was a plaque that was supposed to be stuck to the tractor, Many have are long gone,,, only way tot ell for sure is check with cnh for the build card,, sorry I have not got the contact info handy, the build card will read "Golden Demo, not matter if it is a Black Knight or Golden Demo
cnt

There was a seperate bronze plate on them, but they just showed what dealer ordered it. They were stuck on the cowel just below the black hood strutt. Many dealers removed them for a momento when they sold them, and many just fell off, as they were just glued on. This is off the 870BK that my dad ordered in. The tag measures 5"x2"
As bro said, you will have to contact CNH for the build sheet. Rich Tworak used to handle them, but he has retired. I'm sure someone will chimb in with the new contact info.

Per your reply
"They were stuck on the cowel just below the black hood strutt."

Where exactly do you mean, I have looked this tractor over quite a bit and did not see the separate bronze plate that you mentioned.

I am guessing it would be placed on the exterior surface so that it could easily be seen.

If you have a picture of one installed that shows the location you could post, that would be helpful.

The web site Tractor Data
http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/5/0/502-ji-case-870.html

does not have the serial numbers listed for the 870's but it does have them listed for a 770, 970, & 1070(see below) is it a good indicator since the 870 tractor that I am looking at is
SN 8659863 that it is a 1970 Model Year so it could be a real Demonstrator based on the comment above that the Demonstrators & Black Nights were manufactured in 1970 & 1971?
