Db 880 brake help

How hard is it to replace the brake shoes on a DB 880 tractor? Where can I find the parts? Are there any tricks or nuances I need to know?

The only trick is to make sure you wire down the differential lock pedal before you pull apart the right side. If you don't, the lock will fall out of place when the final drive is pulled, and it can be a bear to get back in.

If the brakes don't work it is probably because there is oil on them. Figure on doing some seals while you are in there. last I checked, there were aftermarket sources for the linings(come with rivets). The seals are a Case or bearing supply sort of thing.

Are there any sites I can visit that have a step by step instructions to guide me? I have never done anything like this before. I have a solid mechanical mind with good practical experience on cars and trucks but never on tractors. I do not have a repair manual. Thanks guys for all your help.

There are 2 different service manuals out there. The Best ones are the originals printed in England, expect to pay a kings ransom for one. These are generally great. You might luck into a copy.

Then there are the I&T manuals($20-30), which are better than nothing. If you combine these with the parts manuals that Case has available online it isn't difficult to figure out what is happening, and how to fix it.

What is wrong with the brakes?

They do not work. Even when I pushing my hardest it barely starts slowing the tractor down. I haven't opened it up to look at anything yet. Thanks for the help.

Sound like the linings are oil soaked and glazed. Given it is almost 50 years old, not too surprising.
