db 880 vs 1210

I am looking at a DB 880 or 1210. Which tractor is most reliable and least expensive to maintain and/or get parts for? The 880 will cost about one third ($1,000) the price of the 1210 but needs steering and brakes repaired while the 1210 seems to be in fair shape.

What do you want it for? If you just want a small estate tractor the 880 is by far the better choice. If you want to do field work, pull stuff, or run a loader the 1210 is a lot better.

There are a 3 versions of the 880, all but the last incarnation has oddball engines. The last version uses the same basic engine they used until 1985 in the 1194.

The engine in the 1210 is common to a many models. The same basic engine was built until 1987. That said, the engine in them will brake cranks if you lug it.

Thanks, it is for a small estate tractor but I do want to cut and bale hay. The numbers I can find on the 880 is AD3 55A IT 3225, MO 2393, F913900. not sure how old it is...I think late 60s.

That is the late engine. Pretty much bullet proof. If it runs, has usable rubber on it, and the tin isn't rusted out, it is a smoking deal.

I use my 780 for a haying tractor on occasion, it has the same engine as that 880, but in a lighter tractor. Only problem is when you get to a good sized hill with 100+ bales on the wagon, you can run out of traction.

It will run a 9' haybine, rake, or run a small square baler fine.

We have an 880A. It has the 3 cylinder, so I think it's one of the later ones. It's been a good little tractor, and it's great on fuel.
I've used it on a 9' haybine with no trouble. It will pull my baler, but is a little light if you're pulling wagons behind the baler, or have many hills
