Favorite farm scene, as a kid.

Mine would be watching the our milk cows chewing their cud, in the shade on a hot day. It was a compliment to my Dad, for being sure that they had enough grass to eat and could enjoy the shade and not have to be working in the hot sun.

Two things come to mind: After milking on Christmas Eve my Dad would instruct me to throw down the nicest, greenest 2nd crop hay I could find to feed the cows. We would stand there and watch them contentedly chewing in the warm barn and my Dad would say, "We are the luckiest people in the world tonight." And he meant it.

The second scene is as a child my Dad's farm and my Uncle Dave's farm met together in the back 40. There in the "40" was a huge soft maple tree and in the summer Uncle Dave's 5 Belgian work horses would be standing in the shade of that big tree. Uncle Dave was too set in his ways to ever have a tractor, although he did have a very late model Case thresher to go with our Case D. I named my son after him.

A special one I remember was driving a tractor in the back forty along a back road that a cute neighbor girl lived along and she drove by and waved.

My favorite farm scene as a kid was watching
Dad pick corn with the mounted corn picker
and wagons,along with switching the wagons,
unloading at the elevator at the corn crib.
I bought one of those wagons at Dad's auction
10 years ago.

Watching the neighbor girl stack hay on the wagon for her horse, while I ran the baler. She never wore a lot of cloths! (and I didn't charge much for baling)
