I have an L case sn 320311. My grandfather bought it new in 1935.My dad startedfarming with it in 1946. The question I have is it is orange and can find no trace of grey anywhere. Saw on classic tractor fever a 35 cc that was factory orange. Could this l have been this way too?

I saw that orange CC on Classic Tractor fever
also.

I really don't think Case ever made any orange
C or L series tractors. I'm sure they were all
battleship grey.

I know it's common to see orange C's and L's at
showsand sometimes in fence rows. I think they
were repainted by the owner at time of rebuld
or dealer when traded in. They were repainted
orange because they looked better than the dark
grey.

Often I will hear people tell me some of the S
and D series were two toned. This is not
correct. D and S series were orange.The 400
series was originally going to be all orange
with yellow hood strips. It was a last second
change to two tone the 400 series. Owners and
dealers would paint tractors to match the paint
scheme of the current production units.

Dad bought a 1948 WD9 in the late 60's that
was painted like a 650. It is common to find M
and H Farmalls painted like 350 and 450's.

Back in the 80's I tried to buy a stuck 1935
CC out of a fence row. The owner wanted
$1000.00 so I passed. It was painted orange.
The Fairbanks Morse magneto and aftermarket oil
filter were also painted orange. There was no
sign of orange paint under the tractor.I'm sure
it was grey.

1935 was long before my time. I really doubt
any C or L tractors were painted orange. I
could be wrong.

Your tractor is a 1930 model; I would guess that your grandfather was the second owner and that it was repainted after the original owner traded it in.

From the serial number lookup that number is a 1935. Was always told i t was a 1934. Was bought brand new

(quoted from post at 12:48:31 12/28/14) From the serial number lookup that number is a 1935. Was always told i t was a 1934. Was bought brand new but could be wrong Would like to put pistons and sleeves in it if I could find a set

Dad bought a new CC in about 1933 . I came along a few yrs. latter and the CC always was grey. Growing up with Case , I never saw a Flambow Red L,C or R series. As it is a known fact the R series were a lighter grey. clint

As stated below your tractor serial shows to be a 1930. My grandfather owned a few gas stations and repair shop in ill during the 1930,s and dad tells me that he had a deal with the local case dealers to take the c and l tractors in and repaint them to the new color when the color change came out. Dad tells that if you strip the fuel tank. rad, and manifold. that the steam cleaner did a petty good job of cleaning and its really hard to find gray.Dad recalls that it keep 2 guys pretty busy. Recalls my grandfather stating a lot of new c and l tractors being repaint.
