SO engine repair

Does anyone know how to remove the oil pasage tube in the block that goes up thru the head and that feeds oil up to the rocker arms on an S engine. It's a 1952 if it matters. Also, I'm putting rings in it and I was wondering if I should pull the sleeves and replace the O-Rings while I'm at it? I bought this engine used and was told it ran? Thanks, DB Oregon

Oil tube is a press fit into the block, I have had good luck grabbing with pliers and working back and forth while pulling upward. I would vote for you to replace sleeve o-rings while you have it apart, I have had a couple of motors that sat dry that leaked and I had to tear down a second time, not much fun. Good luck, Mike

Thanks Mike. I kinda figured I would pull the sleeves, easier now than later. I'm having a base to fit the sleeves made. I thought I would try to remove the oil tube to make sure everything is clean and oil flowing. I'll have to get J Salei to send me some O rings for the sleeves. It's a 52 engine and has the bigger bore. DB

Do you have the orchard tin for your SO? Have a couple SO's but no full tin. Working on getting a couple of '54 SC engines back together currently. They were partially dissasembled parts tractors so it is kind of a two steps forward and one step back getting everything fixed as I reassemble them. Kind of excited to go drive a foot clutch SC, all of the other I have are hand clutch.

Pull the sleeves, wash the junk out from behind all the sleeves and new o rings. Agreed on press fit of the oil pipe. Mine wasn't too bad and came right out.

Remember to check to see if the plug is still in the rocker arm oil tube at the top. The hole in the plug should be about 1/16". Oil pressure will be low without the plug and oil will run down valve stems even if the guides are good. Always check for this when working on an SC head.
