1950 SO project

Bought this nice SO in May, I'm finally getting down to work on it. It had a funny little noise in the engine when I bought it so when I got it home I changed the oil, filter and plugs. After draining what looked like 90 wt oil in the engine and putting in new 30 wt the funny little noise got worse!!

That's an old trick.... use heavy weight oil to compensate for a mechanical problem.Only temporary thou.

The # 2 rod bearing and Crank was bad. I picked up a running engine for a couple hundred bucks. Bearings all look good but I decided to put in rings and do a valve job while I had it on the stand. The pic of engine on hoist was the new engine. It's a 52 SC engine with bigger bore. DB

Seems like the No. 2 rod bearing is most often the one to go. The last time I had a bad one I just polished down the crank journal with it in the engine and installed the next size smaller bearing. It's still running.
