Needs a bit of TLC but seems to be pretty straight considering the hours. It was repainted years ago and still needs the decals. Won't know what I really have until I put it to work this spring. Sorry for the poor quality pic. The sun dropped out of the sky so I unloaded under the yard light.

NICE find!!! I love the looks of the open station ones with the canopy like that!! Is it an 8 speed or a powershift??? I have been eyeballing a 770 gas with a cab and loader sitting on a dealer lot here. Its in rough shape but the price is pretty reasonable. I am just waiting for some warmer weather to go try it out a bit.

Brad that looks like a great find!! on the gas 770's just be aware they are under powered in the 770 chassis, at my elevation the best we can get one to do on a dyno is 45hp, lower elevation will be better, they start easy in the cold and do make a handy loader tractor, I think Brads is a 8 speed as it looks to have only one filter canister

Your right Tom. It's an 8 speed diesel. I figured it must be a later model since it had a black fuel tank and a foot pedal for the wheel tilt. I learned from John last night that the side slats on the hood make a difference also. As a later model, mine has 6 large wide spaced slats whereas most I've seen have 9 small ones. Something I hadn't noticed before so I learned something new. I also learned you can put a narrow front on early 770s but not on a late model.

I won't attempt to run it much until the weather warms this spring but I'll maybe have some questions for you guys from time to time as I start to use it.

The first problem I want to address is the brakes since there's very little on the left and non-existent on the right. Other than the hydraulic spongy feel in the pedal, they act like they are mechanical otherwise. I wonder how big a job it is to fix them? I'll start looking for a repair manual before I touch it.

I do have a couple of questions for you guys today.

1. Is the park brake handle part of the foot brake system at all or does it park the tractor by way of locking transmission gears or brake by means of holding a drive shaft internally somewhere?

2. Did Case stop using the brushed aluminum logo on the hood and replace it with a black decal during the production of the 770s or was it later?
Just wondering if there is a known serial number break for that change or how I am to determine what I need on mine?

Thanks in advance. You guys on this Case sight are the best there is and I learn something every time I check in. It's nice to know a guy can buy a project like this and know I have the back-up support from everyone in the Case world not to mention your contagious enthusiasm for the Case product. J.I. would be proud!

The hand brake pulls a cable that actuates the brakes. If your brakes aren't working and adjusted the parking brake won't hold.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the brakes will be priority one,
safety first and all. Loading on a trailer is a bit sketchy without
them.

Brad, the parking brake just has cables hooked to each brake, the smaller "70" series never had a park loc, only the 1270/1370/1570 did, as fro the Logo they changed some time in late 72 or in the 73 model year, I can see if my parts book gives a serial break, I am almost positive that when the side panels were changed the decal came then as well,,,

Thanks Tom. I just can't find much info on the 770 in my literature collection. What I do have is all early model stuff. Not a single picture of a later model.
I was also trying to figure out when Case changed to the black fuel tank, maybe the same time as the other changes?
I was also a bit surprised to learn there was no diff-lock option on these tractors, considering the smaller tractors had them back in the mid-sixties.

Brad, the black tank was a late 72 change as was the pedal tilt, and yes the 1270/1370 and 1570's were the first with dif-loc, they told us at the time they felt they did not need it,,, and the way I seen people use it in the 1370's it may have been a good thing,,less issues for sure

You guys talking about black tanks and brushed aluminum decals reminds me of Dad's 74 1070 brand new. Sold his 970 to my brother and bought a new 1070. Black tank, black decals and wide louvers.Sweet tractor!

Funny thing. I looked at all my 70 series stuff and found only one picture of a black tank on a sand colored tractor and it was on a 1370 with David Brown on the lower panel dated 1973. Otherwise you don't see black tanks in the sales lit until the Power White tractors came out.

I wonder how much time elapsed between the first black tanks on sand tractors until the white tractors came out?

I also noticed in the sales lit all the brushed aluminum logos appear to be black in color and can't tell it from a decal. Anybody know if those aluminum logos were painted black from the factory and the paint fell off in short order? Or were they only black in the sales lit? I've never seen one with remnants of paint on them including my 570.

Thanks Tom. I'll keep it in mind. I'm going to start looking for books for it but I'll sure call on you if I have nothing yet when the time comes.

I ran my brothers 1370 he had for quite a few years. Don't remember anyone ever using it now that I think on it but those were dry years back then. I suppose they could cause trouble for a mechanic if the operator tromped on it AFTER the wheels start spinning. Or was the trouble from lack of use?

like you said have one wheel spinning and the other sitting still,,,, the spiders were the first to go most times when this happens repeatedly

If you still plan on getting your heat houser for Christmas you are running out of time! DK

Welcome to the 770 club. Yours apears to be equiped exactly the same as our Twins, / diesel 8spd, open station with spoked rear wheels. I am trying to find a 2 post Rops with canopy for one of mine. We istalled those canopys on everything from 830EH tractors, to 7-1030 CK tractors. I thought one of them would have turned up at our local tractor salvage yard by now, but no luck. I do have a narrow front pedistal that I plan on installing this spring.
I did not realize that the more open finned side shield made it to the 770s, which were discontinued just prior to the color change.
Our 770s are both 1971s and just 4 sn# apart. Yours must be one of the very last 770s built.

We had one on our D-17 Allis which was our loader tractor for years and years. Geez, I'm getting a chill just thinking about it.

Thanks Loren. I always enjoyed the pictures of your 770s in action. This little tractor will never be as nice as yours but I hope to nudge her back to health.
I need to do a little research on the serial number and see where it falls. Eventually a build card would be nice too.

Thanks. I wonder why Case bothered with such a
thing vs just using decals as they did later. Had to be
way more expensive to produce and apply, coming
from a no-frills company at the time. Makes me think
they were quite proud of their new 70 series.
