1175 air cleaner

Hey guys, I posted once before this summer and got good responses, so I thought I'd try again. I've been looking for a 1970's tractor. Grew up on John Deere's but always liked the look of the case's and they're much more affordable. So I sat in an 1175 the other day and couldn't believe what a terrible view it had out the front windshield. The air cleaner blocked the view of the pointer on the center of the hood. I'm 5'10", so pretty average height.

Has anyone tried an air cleaner mod to improve the view?

Many with a cab had a kit installed which moved the precleaner over to the front LH post. Still left the air filter housing in front of the operator, but for the most part what I can recall forward vision was OK. Rod.

Pre-cleaner should be mounted on the left hand cab
post. Maybe can see mine in this pic.

A friend put a 1270-1370 air cleaner under the hood of a turbo'd 1070, without cutting things up. I told him I didn't think it would fit, this was a cabbed tractor to, I'd like to know how he got the air cleaner under the doghouse. Put something on top of the pointer if you can't see it. Be thankful, if it was a JD tractor you would get to look at a post right in the middle of the cab & the muffler & the air cleaner pipe! Lol

The precleaner is mounted on the corner post. The air cleaner itself is what I was looking to move. I grew up running 4430's and 4440's. Even with the pipes coming through the hood I could see better than in the 1175. I sat in a 1070 this summer and didn't have any problems with the view. I like these tractors so if I can't figure out how to modify that air cleaner in a professional looking way I'll just learn to live with it. I just wondered if anyone else had tried to do anything about it.

(quoted from post at 10:42:37 12/17/14) LOREN >> Do you have any other antique tractors and do you go to many tractor shows ??

No I don't have any antique tractors. I'm a full time farmer with a little nostalgia kicking in for the 1970's tractors I started out driving on my dad's farm. I'm justifying my anticipated purchase by finding little odd jobs I could do with an older tractor, like brush hogging and pulling out irrigation. In reality, I don't need another tractor at all.

I thought about the seat adjustments as well. When I go back to look at it again I will try that. All the hinge points on the seat were really sloppy so maybe an entirely new seat is in order.

We have 2 870s that we put turbos on and done away with the
stock air filter and put k&n filter that can be cleaned and
reused under the hood, one filter works great but on the 1175
may need two because of the air demand of the higher hp.
Should have enough room to put two under there, remove the
stock filter housing and get a flat door like on a 1070.

Did you do away with the precleaner or doesn't the 870 have one?

There's a small dust bowl on the 870 we left it. You can get the
filters at autozone or advanced auto parts the rubber jumper
hose from the turbo and piping. We use the filters clean them
every time we change the oil. We also put the sock on the
filter. The two filters and piping will be about a hundred bucks.
