Our 430 Tractor Story

I had never in my life driven or worked on a 430 until just a couple years ago. After looking at a few in a friends collection I was convinced we would enjoy owning one of these smaller CASE tractors. After finding out guys were buying tractors on Ebay, I thought what the heck, lets give that a try. That is how I bought this tractor and it was in the state of NY. A trucking firm was located and price agreed with a delivery time of approx. 4-6 mo. That was OK, for the quoted price I could wait. When the tractor finally got to MN, much to my surprise the truck was also carrying another 430 destine to a good friend only 20 mi. away. What are the odds. None of us knew at the time of purchasing this was going to happen. Our 430 was not perfect, as to date a engine overhaul and trans repair along with a lot of TLC was needed. As you can see we enjoy having this little machine around and keep trying to think of different ways to use it. I hope to add a few more jobs for it like cutting and small baling some hay. It has changed the way I view the CASE product line. Back in their day these small machines did not have to take a back seat to any other colored products. My only regret is not having one in the family years ago. Rod.

Hi , My father was a massey ferguson dealer when I was young. Some time after he retired I bought a used Case 530 CK backhoe loader. Dada wasn't impressed I worked that 530 almost daily for 30 years, did some motor work and revering shuttle but one good machine. Sorry to see it go. I have a 416 Cat now but way way heavier than my 530. Ed Will

I'm a Massey guy but if I were to go Case that would be the model. The neighbors have a diesel one and I've always thought it was a neat little tractor.

Although not a 430, I have a 630 diesel that was used every day of the year when we milked cows. All summer long it was on the 24T JD baler baling thousands of bales and grinding feed if a bigger tractor was busy. Had to repair the pto two winters ago and now only runs a finish mower. Good machine!

My neighbors had one that they parked some thirty years ago due to a flat tire. After they sold out about ten years ago a friend got it and had the head off to get it freed up. I haven't seen it in a few years.

Rod,
Was your tractor sold by Pine Bush Equip. in Redhook, NY., or was that the other one? They were located about 75 miles south east of our dealership. Went down there many-a-times, to transfer equipment. If I remember correctally, the seller was in Stone Ridge.

Spent many an hour in the seat of Dads well worn Case 430 diesel all through the late 1970's, entire 1980's, and early 1990's

Ours was only a 4 speed - sure wish it had been dual range tranny. Thie tractor was well worn being a former County mowing tractor. Dad bought cheap, and even being well worn had lots of power and was a total miser on fuel. It was his favorite cultivating tractor and planting tractor. Tractor also saw occasional plow duty (Oliver 2-16 plows), 8' Case wheel disc, and Dunham 12' harrogator duty but was not the main workhorse on those tasks.

Sold all Dad's tractors in 1993 when he passed. Wish I would have kept the little Case though as it would have been quite practical on my piddle patch but I was broke back then with no real estate to store anything. Sadly do not have any pics of Dad on that tractor.

Best story I can offer on the430 is I brought home a dachund/rotweiler mix puppy in the late 1980's. Best dog I ever had (and I have had other good ones to compare with). Dad used to put that pup on his lap and the pup would put her paws up on the steering wheel like she was driving. It was quite the site. No pics of that either. Miss all three now: the Case tractor, Dad, and the dog who succumbed to cancer in 2004 after a long life. All great memories though.

I always kept a VAC or similar size machine around as a chore tractor but last winter I took a chance on a 530 DOM. After a rebuild it purrs like a kitten and it my new right arm on the farm. Does all the lighter jobs from cutting hay and drilling to mowing lanes and moving wagons. Trans makes noise though and it's louder in high range, one of these days I'll open it up and find out!
