Case TFD fluid

Hi, a few months ago my wife inherited a Case 1690 tractor from her father. I have been using it around the place. It is way newer than my next newest tractor. A 1953 Farmall super C. When I was moving some gravel with the loader. I noticed the steering was getting very stiff. then it would be fine then get very hard again. I checked the power steering pump and it was very low on fluid. Which leads to my question. I have a manual with it and it says to fill the pump with 1 1/2 quarts of Case TFD fluid. I have been on google and everything else and cannot find what TFD fluid is. Is is just hydraulic fluid like HY Tran or is it more of a power steering fluid like you might find in a truck or car? Sorry I am so dumb but this is my first Case and my first tractor with power anything. I will be watching my crankcase level cause I am assuming a bad seal in the pump might dump the fluid into the engine. Am I correct to assume that?

TFD was replaced with Hytran after the merger. Hytrsn has also gone through some improvements and is now Hytran Ultra or something like that.
Any brand of HTF fluid that meets CNH/JD specs. will work just fine in your
power Steering, and gear driven tranny, but if your 1690 has a Hydra- Shift trannty use the Hytran there.

If your 1690 has the PS resevoir with the filter like our 1190 try just filling it to about 1/2" above the filter. Ours wants to send oil out the vent tube to the motor if it's up to the full mark. Nick
