Hello, I have a Case 430 (gas) & have some questions. I bought it with the engine partially apart & have removed it. There is a spring that is on the pump drive that seems to push the release bearing towards the clutch, is that correct? Also the release bearing is loose on the shaft as well & there does't appear anything to centre it. Lastly for now, has anyone changed one of these tractors to run on propane? Thanks Jim S

The design is a constant running release bearing. The spring tensions the release bearing up against the pressure plate, the bearing notch catches on a lever and keeps the bearing turning.

This pic are a 300 single plate clutch which is the same or nearly the same view as your 430. If you have a double plate clutch the bearing will have a roll pin vice the notch.

The bearing should be a sliding fit on the pump shaft, no slop.

The spring mounts with the small diameter end toward the tach/pump housing.

Anything else need to know single or double plate clutch.

Hello. It is a single disc clutch & the spring was on backwards & took out the seal on the pump drive, also the release bearing looks a bit different from Joe's picture. I'm thinking that this thing was put together wrong (the guy I got it from did say they changed the clutch a while back). I can see no place that that notch will fit into.Is there a chance something got left out? Thanks Jim S

The bearing notch doesn't fit into anything on the pressure plate, it is just aligned between two of the pressure plate levers upon assembly. When the engine is started the notch catches on a lever and the bearing turns with the pressure plate.

Anyway I looked up the release bearings on the CaseIH parts site. There are 4 different release bearings used in the 430.

Two of them are spring tensioned to the pressure plate. The one in my pic G101610 for an eleven inch clutch and another G14038 for the 9-1/4 and 10 inch clutch.

Here is the CaseIH site link. You can look up the parts you need by year and/or serial nr of your tractor.

I fat fingered an extra 1 in the p/n posted above.

The release bearing in my pic is p/n G10610 not G101610.

Thanks for your help. It looks like the release bearing was put on backwards. I have ordered one from the dealer & will compare the two when it arrives. It has worn down the release fork but I should be able to build it up.I'm not looking forward to what else I might find on this tractor . Thanks Jim S

Check that fork real good. They tend to wear and break at the pivot, especially on loader tractors. I bought a new one recently. Can't remember where just now. Will try to find and post back later.

A couple pic of a used release brg G10610. Note the pressure plate lever wear on the clutch side, weak spring? Years of use? Brg metal not hardened properly? Don't really know.
