I have a oil leak between the two blocks of the depth control valve were the gasket is. Case says that there are no parts available . So what do I use for a gasket and will this be all that needs to be replaced to stop the leak? Thank You.

The original gasket was lead. I have used 1/32 black oil gasket successfully. Very light coat of #3 Permatex on each side, let it get tacky on the dry side before mating.

It is very rare for the block gasket to leak. Unless you are sure it is that gasket, pull off the vent/leak off tubing and check for blockage. When that gets blocked, pressure builds in the rock shaft housing on the piston down stroke during hitch lift. Any oil and liquid grease in the rockshaft housing is pushed out the control valve side, drips off the block giving the appearance of a leak in the control valve. There is a grease lipseal on the left side of the rockshaft but no seal on the control valve side.

Run the engine, cycle the lift about 10 times is a good test. You should at least get some air pushed out of the fitting on the draft arm lift. More likely some oil and grease that should clear up to a very slow drip. If piston seal is leaking it will continue to drip with weight on the draft arms held in the up position. Check tubing clear back to the torque tube. A slight drip does not mean that the piston seal has to be replaced if the hitch is otherwise functioning to your satisfaction.

Thanks Joe it appears to be leaking near the line fitting in your picture were its marked control valve. It Is not leaking any where else that I can see. Is there any seals internally that could cause this gasket to fail ?

Other than oil being pushed out from the rockshaft housing, There are just too many leak possibilities to speculate. Are the fittings tight, cracked tubing at the fitting?

I have seen a control valve stem seal leaking, also the release valve stem seal is another lesser possibility. I would check them next after a thorough external examination. I doubt it is the body gasket but don’t rule it out.

I posted this draft control valve pic a few days ago for someone. It will give you an idea of the internal arrangement.

The parts list is at the link. Use VA in the model search box. Click on the “VAC-13 series”. Click on “hydraulics” and item “128, VTA2852 Depth Control Valve“. Despite the designations it is the control valve for all late model VAC including the 14.
