801B that runs good but has clutch problem

Looking at an 801B narrow front that runs good (mainly because there is a good New Idea 319 picker mounted on it) but it won't always disengage when the clutch pedal is depressed. I am unfamiliar with Case-0-matic and how it works. Does it just need a new clutch or could there be a major headache lurking in there?

nature of the beast is to grind gears,,,sorry to tell you ,, that is inching valve , not a clutch LOL ..hy tran fluid mite help the c-o-m ,,if you can lock it up in direct drive and kill the motor the clutch plates and tranny are good ,, basically ,,, sadly , all c-o-m will gring gears ,, but not soeven bad that you cannot shift into another gear , in subzero weather, you should be able to do that with minimal effort when tranny is warmed up good

I'm gaining a better understanding of the C-O-M since I posted. It's not a gear grinding problem. When the tractor is moving, you can't stop it. Have to kill fuel.

Check the inching spool linkage and make sure the spool is traveling full stroke. Also make sure that when the direct drive lever is pulled back engauging the hyd converter lockup, that it is mechanically returned to the down (disengauged position), when the inching spool/clutch pedal is depressed.

A C-O-M that grinds is an indication, usually of warped or scored plates in the rear clutch pack. A Converter in good condition, with everything working properly, will not grind.

If you cannot get the transmission to release it is a valve problem. This is a torque converter drive similar to your car with an automatic transmission, but it also has a manual lock up feature that is controlled by the lever just under the steering wheel. Shift at an idle, and engage the (clutch) at an idle and throttle up like you would drive your car. When you try to disengage the transmission by pushing on the clutch pedal it should flip the lock up lever ahead with the same motion.
