Case DC head

Attaced is a pick of the head of a case DC, looking at the #2 cyl. In the intake (right in picture) it appears that the head has a hole that let water down the valve and into the cylnder, which locked it up (NOT rain, it was running in March and locked up by May and our part of Az didnt get much or any rain and the exahust was too tight in that time.)

So are DC heads known to do this? Any hopes of a fix or should we just pull the head off a parts unit weve got and see if its good?

And Can the Oil pan be put back on with out spiting the tractor?

We got the piston out, sleeve honed and piston clean and back in, but not sure about putting the pan back on or what to do for the head.

Sorry, didn't make my self clear- we never pulled sleeve, just the piston-the water leak in the head locked up the motor, but only the #2 cylinder- even after we pulled the #2 rod cap through the inspection ports, and turned the crank out of the way, we couldn't find a way to force that piston out without doping the pan. Once we dropped the pan, we used a bottle jack and pushed the piston out.

Two thinks I can think of we try not to do (and when we succeed, seams to save some grief): pull a sleeve, or unbolt a manifold.

So as quitting time when I last posted, we've just gotta get the pan back on and decide a course of action for the head.

Please do not take my suggestion as being a know it all. I would consider pulling all the sleeves and replacing the rubber Oring at botton of sleeves. My luck in past was just as soon as all was back and running well a leaking Oring showed up. I think John saeli and Don L on this forum has them as new old stock. Have a good thanksgiving weekend.

My 39 manual says to loosen the bell housing split and let the tractor sag, that will give you the clearance you need to get the pan up, hopefully you did not destroy the gasket or you will have to get material the thickness of the old, cut new of the damaged pieces and glue them in place, at the splices I would put a light coat of red rtv, I use red exclusively and some of my builds have no paper gaskets at all.
