can anyone tell me what the "Size 00" means that is stamped on plate of my granddads old case L. Its ser # is 4208067 so I know its a 38. I'm deciding whether to restore it or sell it. Any info would be appreciated.

I can not answer the first question about size.

On the second one, restore or sell it is matter of personal sentimentality, but once it is sold, it is almost certainly gone forever.

I have gone to a lot of effort and expense to keep family member's old tractors and rescued my dad's 1937 C, and uncle's 1949 LA. They will not be sold again in my lifetime and I have willed which family members they are to go to.

I would like to find one of the family's L Cases (there were 5 of them that I know of) but I have never been able to trace any of them

I cant tell You what the "oo" means on the serial plate BUT I can Hopefully shed some lite on selling The L . Personally I would never sell a family tractor-Let Me tell You why- My father and grandfather bought and sold a lot of old case tractors among other brands and with the exception of my grandfathers original 1931 C CASE Which he sold and bought back pretty much all of the other CASE C-CC's went to the scrap yard when Carter was in office to make ends meet and I can still remember dad asking me which ones We should keep -Trying to make Me feel better about the situation and I always leaned toward the old Cases and to this day I still have My grandfathers original C and if ever there comes a day when I cant take care of her I will give Her to another family member as long as they will guarantee Me She will never leave the family again and if She ever does They can bet I will haunt them till they get it back and pass it on once again to somebody in the family that will take care of Her. My story aside And Thinking of Yours If You think someone in Your family would be interested in keeping the L alive and breathing I would offer it to them rather than someone that doesn't appreciate its history and only cares about how many Case tractors they can acquire just for bragging rights because if You sell it You and future generations of Your family may never see it again much less have a chance to bring/buy it back.

Hi guys. Your comments are very well stated regardless of model or color. What's in the family should stay there.

Sorry I can't help the "Size 00" question. I have a 38 L too, 4210707 Size "L" built Jun of 38. As far as selling it, those of us who have sold family tractors and now regret it will all caution you to think through your decision carefully. What’s the old saying; you don’t miss it until it’s gone. Back in the early 90's, I sold my dad's tractor which I grew up on. It was sold with the farm thinking I didn't have a place for it, I'd never need it and it’s too old. But now as my interest and sentiments have changed, I find myself surfing the regional ads hoping to stumble on it some day. Wishing you the best.

This weekend there is a auction with a 1936 Ac WC on full steel. it even runs. It has been in the same family (four generations) since it was new. I don't know why they are selling it. They still active with farming. Stored it inside.

I wouldn't sell it. I wish my grandpa hadn't sold all his farmalls. We had an H that great grandpa bought new. it was sold when I was 12. I would really like to have it now.

Thanks for all the responses. I think after researching all of options, it would probably be better to keep it in the family! Some day I'll probably get around to tinkering with it.
