1070 powershift

Was using the tractor yesterday to pull a load of corn to the auger & then pull the auger away from the bin & park it. I stopped & then went to move the auger ahead a little more & the tractor wouldn't move or go into any gear. No engine noise when pushing in the clutch, only a clicking noise. Transmission pressure was good & wasn't locked in any gear. Had to pull it into the shed. Brakes, steering & hydraulics work. Couldn't see anything externally wrong but the clicking noise seemed to be coming from under the ps cover, Power shift & range selector levers move as they should. Is this going to be bad news. Need expert advice.

Thanks,
Dennis

If it is a late model 70 series it could be the torque limiter. That seems to be the way they go. On the early models the hydraulics drive off the torque limiter, late models drive off the crankshaft. If you can shift the 4 speed without pushing the clutch pedal down the problem has to be between the engine and transmission. if it is the torque limiter it will be a split behind the engine, but the cost is not bad. If you check the power shift pressures in each speed it will tell you more.

Dennis, it sure sounds like your torque limiter disk failed. When you depress clutch pedal and no longer hear the engine surge generally means the power shift is not turning due to limiter failure. When you say you can no longer get it into gear I assume you mean it does not move in any gear. If the power shift is not turning you should be able to shift it into gear without depressing the clutch. If you can not shift into gears, that could be other problems. To repair the torque limiter the tractor is split behind engine, not a bad job. Rod.

Sorry Darrel, I must have been plinking away at the keyboard when you had already answered the question, LOL. Rod.

Thanks Dkase. I have all winter to to get it fixed. At least I know what the problem may be. I will have the pressures checked first.

In addition to the other guys posts, With the tractor running and the clutch depressed will it grind when trying to shift the 4 spd? If so, yes the PowerShift is being turned by the torque limiter plate. If it will grind when trying to shift it may be as simple as the platform mounts are squished/bad and or the clutch linkage is worn not allowing C-4 clutch to activate. You can pull up the floor plate to check for full clutch spool travel.

Didn't here any grinding when shifting the range lever w/clutch depressed, just a clicking noise coming from under the power shift cover. All other tractor functions work. Thanks for your reply AgriKing.
