2390 clutch question

Hello, we picked up a 2390 this fall as an emergency replacement for our MF 1155 that blew its engine. Took a chance on the 2390 not knowing much history about repairs and such, but it seems to run good, the power shift seems tight in all speeds. The only question I have is the clutch/ incing pedal goes all the way to top of travel before it fully engages, it doesn't slip but feels like it should engage sooner, is that a cable adjustment or something hydraulic? Also, Case calls it a torque limiter clutch, is that a wet clutch or dry?

It is a wet fixed tension clutch that runs in the transmission oil. The main clutch is part of the powershift.

The clutch pedal does not work conventional linkage but moves the inching spool in and out so will not have "feel" of a spring loaded pressure plate style.

The spool position controls modulation pressure so should be set to go clear into the valve when the clutch is engaged and clear out as far as it mechanically can to disengage.

The cable adjustment may be able to be set so the clutch pedal can be set to engage the clutch sooner as long as the spool moves to its bottomed position at the each end of stroke but as long as the spool is traveling as it should the pressure should be ok so it becomes just a matter of "feel" for you.

I know I'm going on and on but since you are new to the tractor you could check the clutch pressure at the C2 port on the powershift valve to be sure you are getting full system pressure when the clutch is out.

Try replacing the modulator spring in the Powershift
valve which is the big square valve on the right
side of the tractor behind the battery box. There
will be plugs on the bottom of the rps valve and the
one you want to remove takes a 1" socket the rest of
the plugs take 7/8". The modulator spring is
directly below the clutch spool in the rps valve.
The part # for the mod spring is a60155. Lastly when
you remove the plug there should be a light
spring,washer,then modulator spring. If the washer
is gone the two springs can coil together effecting
clutch operation. Good luck

If it needs a new point and spring assembly on the rear of the clutch spool the clutch will be either in or out, it will almost be un manageable because the point and spring acts as a variable relief valve to allow a slow pressure rise on C2 for clutching.

If it's not working the spool will open the pressure channel when the spool gets past its land and pressure rise will be instantaneous. You did not indicate that was the case so I answered upon the info given, it seemed to me your concern was just pedal engagement .

If needed the point and spring used to be able to be secured as a complete kit.
