870 Gas Help

Have an opportunity for on an 870 gas powershift. I'd be using it for general chores and such. Any positive or negative feedback would be appreciated.

I have one that only gets used during the winter primary for snow removal. Its a great cold weather tractor as it starts well and warms up quicker than a diesel producing good heat for the cab. The power shift and pto work good after tractor has had a chance to warm up a little. Steering is a little sluggish until the hyd's warm a bit. If I had to find something negative to say it would be it likes its gas, but I have to remind myself it is always cold when it is being used. Rod.

Yep, cold does cause them to eat a little more, but just remember, ya gotta feed the horses & there's a quite a few of them under that hood! (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

gassers are fine when they are healthy and runnin good ,nuthin makes me happier when the cows are a mooing for hay ,than to crank over a 730 or a DC in sub zero temps, and hear it come to life eagerly,, ready to give good service ...,,,. only way I found to keep them happy and healthy is to run 5 gallon of gas per week thru them doing anything ,,..seems like case gassers are the worst to me ,,not sure about p/shift ,, they mite be better than the hundred and flambeau series .. But< My > dad always said ,you need more than one tractor if you depend on case tractors,,Because they like to be pulled ,specially when they have been sleepin a while , you can crank and crank , nuthin , ?!?.. then give it a 30 ft pull and she will fire to life and work all day like nuthin was wrong... go figure .according to Pop,many years ago ..if you didn't have all the options bells and whistles for a Case tractor, it seems like adverse personality came standard withtoo many case gassers he owned in his time

Thanks Rod

Did they ever come up with fuel consumption comparisons between the diesel and gas motor? What kind of consumption do you see gallons per hour for your use?

Thanks Jay

If you find the Nebraska Test for the gas and diesel you should be able to find fuel consumption and compare those figures. The gallons per hour use for me is extremely variable depending on what I am doing. I do not have a meter on the fill barrel. I do know that the 730 diesel the 870 gas replaced used less fuel, but I prefer to drive the 870. Rod.
