case 870 gas head vs diesel head

Which head would have better air flow the 870 gas or the diesel head machined to accept spark plugs.
I have never had either one in my hands to physically see that's why I'm asking before I try tracking down a pair of gas heads for a pulling project. Thanks

I have never had an 870 gas head in my hands. I do know that the diesel heads are cross flow heads and don't have any valve chambers on them. Around my area they don't let converted heads run, if they are legal in you area it might be worth a try. If you plan to do it look for a large injector 504 head it may make it easier for machining the spark plugs, and they probably have the biggest valves. Hope this helps Paul.

What block are you using? I only ever played with one 870 gas(stripped the engine for parts), and as I recall the head bolt placement was different and they had 1 less bolt. Also I think the diesel valves are too big to fit in the gas sleeves.

I'm looking at using a 870 block but haven't
found a gas yet. I did find a diesel local. And
I was told heads will bolt to either block gas
or diesel. I would be interested in buying a
complete gas motor if any body has one or knows
where one is.
