Positive ID of Neighbor's Case Tractor

Hi everyone,
My neighbor has restored the tractor in the pictures to the point where he needs a decal set, but he is not sure of the exact model
(it was a basket case!) He has been told that it is a 530 CKL, but, for obvious reasons, he wants to be sure. I'll include additional info after the pictures.

Additional info that we have:
159 cu. in. gas motor with ser # 2613842 onthe block
G1411 is on the middle casting behind the motor
4 speed transmission with an additional 3 speed range selector
hand clutch and a foot clutch
power steering and cat 1 three point hitch
14.9 x 24 tires
3 gauges on console- water temp, fuel, and a tach
I have numerous other photos if necessary.
We sure would appreciate a positive ID.
Thanks, Bob F

It is not a LCK. Appears to be a very late model 540 as it has flanged rear axles and the low profile front axel. Also the hydraulic remote lever are what were used on 570s. As mentioned, it would be interesting to see what fenders were on it.
All those tractors were decaled 530, even if they were painted industrial yellow like both of my 440s were.
Loren.

Thanks for the info so far. I will try to get info on the fenders tomorrow.Hope this is the right way to respond

My 530 has the battery in front of the transmisson shift lever.
My 430 has the battery under the hood. Where is the battery
on this one?

Loren,

I'll bet it had the full, early style fenders. The late 530s had clam shells, but this tractor is a mid 1966 or earlier model. The last triple range was 8298700 (mid 1966). Another hint that it's not a late one is the hand clutch and the non-independent PTO on a dry clutch model. Most of the late ones (and 570s) I've seen had a independent PTO with no hand clutch.

The instrument panel without a cluster would make it after sn 8262800 (mid 1965).

Unless it has been molested.... I would bet it's a late 1965 or early 1966 model 540. Someone has done a nice job restoring it. Great looking little tractor.

It looks like the battery has been removed, but the tray and cables are there under the dash, in front of the shifter.

Loren, I agree, PS pump is very late model too. Early model had reservoir located separate from the pump instead of reservoir with pump inside.

Joe,
I questioned the hand clutch and tripple range in my mind also, but didn't have the details, sn# breaks etc. One of my 440s has a tripple range with EH and the other sn#8349533 would have been a DOM tractor , but was a bareback with no PTO, DOM, or onboard hyds. The other factor that I noticed was the angled engine oil filter, rather than being horizontal. Also, I didn't notice what style seat it has on it.

OK Guys, will try to answer some of the questions.

First, the fenders (not finished yet) but hopefully a picture that shows that they are not clam shell.

Some additional info:

The battery is under the dash in front of the shifter.
He calls the Power steering "hydrostatic" and it does have the reservoir with the pump inside.
Some additional casting numbers: transmission A37101
A picture of the independent PTO lever (foot clutch allows engaging the PTO)

I appreciate all of you trying so hard to help us identify what we really have. I hope that I answered all of the questions,

Bob, that tractor has what they called "Constant Running PTO" as you use the hand clutch lever to stop travel while allowing the PTO to turn, a "Independent PTO" has a lever at the back for controlling the PTO which will operate any time the engine is running

Case Nutty-- OOps, maybe bad terminology on my part. Why I was saying independent PTO, is because of the ring in the picture (just to the right of where the top link connects to the tractor) is the top of a rod that goes down to engage/ or disengage the the PTO. In order to use this lever to engage the PTO, the foot clutch must be depressed, the rod moved either up or down (Idon't remember which way), and then the foot clutch released. Now we have the PTO running. To stop the PTO, I just depress the foot clutch, and move the rod with the circle in the opposite direction. As you said, I don't think the hand clutch has any effect on the PTO operation. I hope this makes sense to you when you read it!! I don't know if this whole description changes anything or not.

Loren,
I tried to answer your question about the fenders, but I did it by using a reply to my original post. (I'm still trying to get the hang of how this forum thing works) Anyway, if this gets to you, I've included pictures and additional information.
Thanks, Bob F

The fenders have extensions on the bottom for the step boards like a fender for a 630 back to a 312. Like a fender for a bigger wheel.

In todays world why would anyone remove the ser.# plate? In the 40's they did to sell them Black Market. But why now. And how could anyone rebuild it to the point that this one is and not know the model number? I am sure some parts needed that number to be sure they were the right ones???

Hi Jimmie D,
He has a parts manual for a 43/530 Case and everything that he ordered led him to believe that what he had was a 530. The problem came a bout when he went to order decals and found multiple sets for a 530. I think that he is g0ing with the "tripl range set", but it is a bit more pricier, and he wants to be sure.
As far as missing serial number plate, I don't know why but I agree that it would have made this job a whole lot easier.

Bob,

The correct decals for that tractor would be the ones with no
printing aft of the "CASE" on the side decals. They would be
just black with silver trim back to where the round draft-o-matic
decal was placed just forward of the dash. The earlier models
with a triple range would have had the Tripl-Range drive
version of that decal. The series after your tractor dropped the
draft-o-matic decal. - Joe
