800 water pump?

My old 800 has issues occasionally with holding its coolant. Seams like 2 or 3 times a year, when I shut it off, it will dump all of its coolant. I am guessing that my seal in the water pump has a groove, and when things line up just right, she just dumps the coolant.
I am getting ready to put a loader on it, and it will get used during the winter some now. In the past, when it got to leaking, I would park it for the winter, and the next spring, after things had set dry all winter, I could get most of the summer out of 1 radiator fill.
My question is, can I get by rebuilding the pump I have, or do I need to double the price of my tractor, and put a new pump on her?

Top of the day! John Saeli has the rebuild kit you need. And you will have enough change left over to buy a rattle can of F/red to paint it too! John &Chris tele.315-585-9826. Tell them that Pastor Johns brother[the handsome one ] Sent you. Good luck Chuck Machinist

The pumps aren't that bad to repair, but the impeller has to be pulled off, and I couldn't find a puller narrow enough to put 2 bolts through to pull it off so I had a friend make me a puller. The bolts are about 1.250" apart and a threadded bolt in the middle to push against the shaft of the pump. The seal, part #A166281, I bought from CNH, about $35 a couple years ago, the gasket, and a bearing from Napa was all I needed. The impeller may have to be trued up if it is worn where it seals. Try to keep the impeller fins the same distance to the casting when pressing back on. This was on a 400, but the pump should be the same. Were about 260 miles apart, I'm from Columbus, but I could help you get it apart.

before you order a kit. i would try to take the old pump a part. I have had some that were so rusted they came a part in pieces.

Also, if the surface the seal runs on is rusted or damaged it will need replaced or resurfaced.

I suggest you talk with John Saeli. He helped me with the rebuild of the pump from my 700. He had some problems, so maybe he can remember what they were and save you some trouble.

Pretty sure he charged me a lot less than what it cost him to get it fixed.
