Cream hoods on SC

We bought this tractor at an auction a few years ago and have always wondered why it has a cream colored hood. It is a '49 serial number 5319484SC. As far as I know it is original paint. I seen some(of this model and others) in calendars and magazines in before restoration pictures, the owners then restored them completely orange. With that in mind why cream?

There is no way it is original paint; they did not begin using Desert Sand/Sunset until 1956 when the 400 and 500 series were introduced.

just a curiosity. I don't know much about case. For all I knew about case colors it was original. Someone maybe tried to show off their (new) tractor by painting to match the new series.

No SC, DC, or LA left Racine with a cream hood. Dealers and individuals repainted them to make them look like the new tractors (~1955 and later) for various reasons. Also, some collectors like the two-tone color scheme, and repaint their restorations that way.

Thanks that's what I kinda thought but had no real clue. That's why I asked not that it was some sort of factory demo or such.

Dad did his late DC that way and it gets the neighbors to talking when it is seen from a distance working in the field.

heard that, only the dealers would do that to help move the old sc /DC inventory off the lot and down on the farm ,,. To me it only seems Ok for foot clutchers ,,..probably gonna pizof the correct police , BUT ,.for unique nostalgia reasons, if I ever get time ,,.. I intend to do the Desert sunset to my foot clutcher sc and DC ,, personally I feel the strpes would look nice flambeau,, rather than black .though scarce as hens teeth .there are plenty pre 1950 case tractors sporting the dual paint scheme , simply because of owner preference

it has been repainted. The 400 was the first to have the sunset hood. it was a last minute change as the 400 was going to be all orange.

The '30' series was out when Dad had his repainted and finished it off with a black stripe decal. He used just the part with CASE on it and cut it at an angle before the other lettering.

Was told it was quite common when the older Flambeau tractors were traded in for the new two tone tractors that the dealers would repaint them with the new colors to make them easier to sell.
