It appears to be a cylinder sleeve with an upside down blown piston stuck in the top, sitting on a white plastic lid.

I agree with Glen definitely not steam related. Traction engines don't have sleeves and the piston is usually a disk. I second the LH sleeve and piston.

Based on the valve cutouts, opposed cutouts for an injector and powercell placed perpendicular to that, I'd say it's a piston and liner from a diesel. Being dished out that deep, I'd wonder if it's not out of a Hesselman
