What a great Fall here!! Getting some long needed work done

The last three days I have been in "Dirt Mode" putting hours on my 450 pushing a dirt pad back into the hole a Oil rig left here in the mid sixty's, From what I was told it was a Wet year here and they built the location and drilled with water standing all around the pad, What a mess to deal with even after all these years! Top 6"-8" was a breeze, after that you have Very packed and mix-match soil with 3' chunks that are still holding together when I doze them out! I found at about 1 1/2' level that it was extremely packed and tight soil so I got the 770 hooked to the "603" ripper and after Many trips getting deeper it allowed me to get through the hard pan, then I have been ripping the "grade" dirt as well, still have quite a bit of work to do on it today but have estimated I will have moved 250 yards of dirt or more when I am done

That looks like a lot of fun. I haven't ran a dozer in a few years, but always fun to play in the dirt. Hard believe after all these years and freeze/thaw cycles that ground is still hard with big chunks.

Tom ,
Like they say " more than one way to skin a cat "..
if you having problems with the dozer then go to plan "B" ... get the tractor and ripper out ..
Looks like you are getting there ...
Thanks for sharing ....

Ps ... going to the post office Mon. see if there is anything can be done about the CALENDARS ..
notice they been to Denver and Pa . 2 times now ..

Case-nutty when they built the pad they probably mixed cement into the dirt to stabilize the pad. They’re doing that around here where I live now just to do basic work on a well.

The oil companies are ruining ground with compaction

Looks like a good time. I got work to do with my crawler loader as well but haven't had time to go through the carb. Looks like a pretty good sized machine, probly the size I should have bought. Don't have to much fun.

No cement in the dirt here on this one, it is just that type of soil if you work it wet and they did every time they moved it lol

I have wondered how long will it take to enhance
the soil so that it could produce a decent crop, since one has disturbed the top soil that probably is not that deep any way. How deep is the top soil in Gillette? Curious!

Not as deep as this was dug from, lol I mixed it a couple times moving it and we will have to see what happens, much of the fill is on a strip that will be planted in the spring, if I get time I may spread some "poo" on it later, finished today came out pretty good I think, ended up with
12hrs dozer hours
2 hrs hours ripping
1 hour disc/harrow
I also went over it twice with the 1470 and chisel plow

Tom,
Where is your farm relative to Gillette. My son and I elk hunt on some land just east and north of Cordero coal mine.
