Rock Island Tractors !

Would someone please tell me what years these tractors were made, and various model numbers? I found one, looks complete, but engine stuck. What value would it be worth.

I assume you are talking about the two-tone tractors and not the lettered tractors. If so, the 300 round-nose variants were produced from 1956 to 1957. The 350s were produced in 1957 only. Then the x00B series tractors were produced from 1958 to 1959. They included the 200B, 300B, 400B, 500B & 600B variants. Finally, the 430, 530 and 630s were produced beginning in 1960. They were only produced in Rock Island for 2 years before the production of those models was moved to Racine. The Rock Island plant also produced chassis for the construction tractors, that were shipped to Burlington for final assembly. - Joe

I found one in a barn, that I hope to buy, but the only thing I can see is ROCK ISLAND ( raised lettering ) on the front of radiator. It's on steel, and appears to be in decent shape being inside the barn. I figured these were made at the Rock Island plant. Can't get to it to see serial number tag.

Mike,

That's a different animal. I thought you were referring to the Case tractors built at the Rock Island plant. The Rock Island you're referring to was a separate and independent company.

Paul Searle (Sp) who frequents this forum is an expert and Rock Island collector. Hopefully he checks in.

Sorry about the confusion.

Mike, the Rock Islands were built from 27-35 with a small handful in 36 as left overs before the company was officially sold in January of 37 to Case. the factory in Rock Island became the Rock Island Case Works.

model wise, 95% of the tractors are either a G2 or an F/FA. the G2 is a split block waukesha CS4 series engine. The F and FA are a Buda YR or YRA. the tractor tag on all models is on the hood on the right front side and are often missing so the engine tag is often the back up. There are other models they built, but they aren't seen very often.

Engines on both are fairly simple, as long as its just stuck they are pretty easy to work with. Manifolds on the other hand are a major issue. theres not much in the way of parts but there are a few parts tractors.

Thanks Paul, I thought CASE acquired them. What value would you place on one that has a stuck engine, but appears to be in overall decent shape.?

I have a 1929 model F that was stuck when I bought it in 2000. I rebuilt everything ahead of the transmission in 2008. Nice straight tractor with side panels. I paid $1500 for it. Spent $600 on it and a lot of time. Met some really nice people while looking for parts. Runs great now.

Seen this Rock Island model H3 in the Heartland
Museum at Clarion Ill.

I believe I saw that one last year when it was being restored. I did not know where it went. The H3 and H4 are the same tractor as a G2 with a slightly differnt motor. They only built around 100 between the two models in 33 and 34 according to what i can find. I know of I think 4 of each. Just came in from working on our h4 in fact.

I hate putting prices on stuff, but a running g2 went for months without selling on ebay recently listed at 5k. 1500 is in the ballpark, even a bit more is not unreasonable. Other trouble spots are front end and belt pully. Both broke frequently. Look forward to hearing more about it.
