On the case ih parts online website, the 1370 telescoping
steering wheel looks like the same design as my 2590.

There are two rubber "keys" that wear out. They are available
from case but I made two from a rubber tarp strap, just cut to
size, about 6mm x 6mm x 12-15mm long.

The hardest part of the job was getting an internal lock ring
washer part out of the column so the lock mechanism can be
removed from the column.

I pulled the steering out of the cab by removing it at the u-joint
under the dash.

I can't seem to copy and paste the parts image on this device.

I made some keys out of some uhmw (Ultra-high-molecular-
weight polyethylene) that I had laying around. Just used a
hack saw to cut the pieces and an olfa knife to trim to the right
size. I think the length was somewhere between 5/8 and3/4 of
an inch.

There is a roll pin in the shaft under the dash. On the top side
of the u joint. Remove it. You should now be able to pull out
the whole steering wheel. Remove the nut that holds the
tightening knob and the unthread the tightening knob. You
may need an impact to get that nut off. Now at the bottom
where you removed the roll pin there is an internal snapring in
the shaft. Remove it and the funny washer behind it. Now all
should come apart. There is another round pin in the shaft and
2 keys that will fall out. I put the plastic pieces inbetween the
funny washer and the long 1/4 inch keys. It falls apart easy
and takes some tinkering to get
It all back together.

Ps. Some of the nuts that hold on the tightening knob were left hand thread. Just did the one on our 4490 and it had right hand thread. Just saying.

Hello

OK Can i take out the pin an leave the tube in Place
or do i have to remove the upper unit completely above the cross or can i just
take out the pin and pull the steeringwheel up.

Thanks

Take the pin out then tube and steering wheel assembly
should come right out. Then you can work on the unit on a
Work bench.

Ranch.
