My tractor is broken

Got her split and my home made brace and a motorcycle jack made the job a snap. Now I hope the main shaft comes out as easy as the IT service manual says. If I hear a big bang tonight I'll know my welds didn't hold.

Ok, Is it possible to remove the main shaft of the transmission without removing the transmission from the rear end?
My IT manual says "If special tool is not available, slide gear (9) against bearing cone (10) and buck-up gear with bar while bumping shaft forward."
Is all of the spelling correct in the above quote? I can think of how to re-word to make more since. What does buck-up mean?
Thanks,
Joe
PS welds held fine but did add safety blocks.

It means to shove the rear gear back against the bearing inner race and hold hard pressure on it while driving the shaft front out of the gears. Otherwise you could make a spacer to go between the gears while they are spread apart as far as you can get them, that way the force is applied to the front casting by 3-4 gear. Remove everything up front so the bearing and race can drive out. The rear bearing will be destroyed if this step is not followed.

Ok I can make the spacer as described, and buck it up, but is there a way to pull the shaft out rather than removing the transmission and beating on it from the differential side?

Thanks,

Can't you remove the pto and drive the shaft out from there, that is how it's done on later tractors.
