SC question

Bought my first Case yesterday. It is a 51 SC with wide front and eagle hitch. So far I see that I need a manifold gasket and repair to the exhaust elbow. I should be able to do the repairs on that part. I the question that I have is the shift lever is sloppy loose and very hard to find a gear or get it into gear. What am I up against as far as fixing that?

The first thing to do with the shift lever is put the tractor in neutral, remove the two bolts which hold it down, and remove it from the top of the transmission. You can then inspect the bottom end of the lever for any damage, and also look into the transmission to see how much wear there is on the shifter plate. If there is any in-and-out play in the shift lever, then you probably have a broken or missing spring, which is easily accessed by removing the shifter lever.

also look at the stamped steel cap (part number 2535aa Socket)that is removed with the two bolts. The pin in the gear shiftier more then likely has worn the stamped steel grooves completely though also adding to the sloppiness
