Case 530ck backhoe spurting hyd oil through the breather

I'm having trouble with this backhoe that I've had a while. The hydraulics are pretty strong on loader and backhoe, but it started spurting oil out the left breather soon after getting started. I can see bubbles in the oil, but it doesn't look "foamy". Also, it's only the left and last time I let it flow some and it kept escaping until fluid level was too low for good operation.
I did check the pump intake hoses and nothing seemed blocked or damaged.
I'm thinking this could be a blockage out of the left reservoir or into the right reservoir? Is there any problem in capping the left breather to see how it behaves? I could use any tips on diagnosing this further.

I've a bit older 310B ldr/hoe and the left breather was in the tool box and the hole plugged 20 years ago. I put it back and had the same issue. I know the 2 sides are clear and connected and have just left it that way. Breather is on the right only. The hoe is only used for misc farm work, culvert setting, drainage issues, stumps etc with no commercial 24/7 usage.

Thanks for a good data point. Mine is the same, for misc usage on the farm and if I can get it up and running safely it should be fine.
