Battery for 12 volt 46 VAC

Hi,

Just bought a 46 VAC that has been converted to 12v with an alternator.

The battery is deader than dead.

What is a suitable replacement battery?

Also how hard would it be to switch from a 12v alternator to a 12v regulator?

Thanks!!

A new case owner!

I'd just get a battery that fits the space available.

If it is a common 10SI series Delco alternator the regulator is built in.

I agree, just about any modern 12 volt battery in fair condition will have no trouble starting that smaller, low compression engine. Use any size that fits in the battery tray.

If you won't use the VAC much and have to buy a new battery anyway, I prefer to buy a new battery for one of my daily drivers (pickup, car, etc) and move the older battery to a less demanding application. That keeps the best batteries in the daily drivers. Winter isn't too far away anymore.

I think he means how hard would it be to switch from 12v alt. to 12v generator.

The generator WILL need a voltage regulator, You can get 12v generators for Case tractors from A&I and nnalert and John Saeli will have regulators for 12V. I switched my 630 back to a generator from the old POS GM alternator cobbled on to it from a previous owner. I wanted to go back to original. I know the early 30 series tractors used 12v generators, don't know when they switched from 6v to 12v but a 12v generator that will fit in your space will be easy to find but kind of pricey to go back with a new or rebuilt, just depends on what he are looking for.
