630 hand clutch

Does anyone here on the Case board have experience working on a 630 hand clutch? A neighbor needs to get his fixed for snowthrowing. It seems to be slipping and he wonders if it can be adjusted, and if so, how it is done. If not, is it a big project to get into? Thanks, Don

Don, he needs to pull the range shift cover to access the adjustment, I can post a pic if Joe does not beat me to it, basically adjusts like a pto clutch

Don,

It is a multi disc clutch just like a rear PTO clutch on later tractors such as the comfort king which has only one adj pin but has to have the front top cover removed, The short pin must be pulled and the hub rotated to increase the snap over rate of the external lever just like a rear pto, there are two pins and as the ring is rotated the other will snap in requiring it to be pulled before turning to the next notch. it can be set so there is a good crisp snap when it overcenters.

If the compartment is up to level a first timer may want to drain a gallon out of the torque tube to see what he is doing but us oldtimers would probably just work by feel but have the advantage of having done many.

Of course the shift forks have to be properly aligned upon reassembly but this is an easy fix providing he hasn't slipped it to the point of plate warpage.

Don, these scans are from a 300 service manual, but the instructions and procedures to adjust the clutch will be the same. Joe
