Need help identifying parts out of a '43 S

Bought a 1943 S at auction. I drained the engine and rear end and found this piece at the bottom of one of the oil pans. The oil pans got set aside for awhile so I don't know if this piece came from the engine or the rear end. Can anyone tell me what this is and where it came from?

Maybe the tabs for the oil pump that bolts it to the block? Thats about the only thing that has a angled piece like that in the crankcase.
