430 hydraulics

case 430

My 1965 440 has draft-o-matic but does not have remote hydraulics. I found a 300b and a 630 at a salvage yard. Both look like they have the same valve assembly that is used on the 430. The part # I need (if I am correct) are:
A35618 valve assembly
A35437 manifold valve
According to the parts book for the 630 # are:
A49033 hydraulic control valve
A49029 hydraulic interlock
Are these the same parts and are the interchangeable?
I know I will need linkage parts as well, but I have to start somewhere!!
Thanks of any help.

Case 430, does the 630 at the salvage yard have a power steering pump? The one that mounts directly to the engine.

Those parts are the same. However, the manifold that serviced the eagle hitch will be set to single action. If you choose to connect it to a double action circuit/cylinder, you'll need to reset it for that purpose.

I was in your shoes a number of years ago when I restored a '64 441. It too had a draft-o-matic valve but no remote valves. You'll need all of the linkage parts including bushing that are pressed into the casting which holds the levers that move the spools. Those bushings were something I missed when gathering up parts. If I remember correctly you will also need to be specific when sourcing the levers and rods. I think the utility and general purpose tractors differed in those parts. Those parts may also be different from the early draft-o-matics and the late models (68-72 including the 70 series).

Bottom line is the project you are embarking on is possible and rewarding when you're done, but study the various parts manuals and be methodical when sourcing the parts. I ended up buying a number of wrong parts as part of the learning process.

Thanks for the info Joe. I'm happy to know that I am on the right track. One question, how do I make the valve dual acting?

The change from single to dual action is a matter of inserting a flush pipe plug in the internal port of the manifold/interlock. The following two scans out of service manuals show the setup. The first is from a 300 manual, and the second is from a late 30/70 series service manual.

Essentially when the interlock is used for single action (eagle hitch), the rear port on that interlock is capped and the internal port is opened. Dual action requires the setup to be switched with the second hose attached to the rear port and the internal port is plugged.

Notice in the second scan, the lower/left interlock is setup as a single action valve, while the upper/right interlock is setup as a double action valve.

I do not know for sure but I read some where that the valve is
different on case-o-matic from dry clutch. I just wanted some
one who knows for sure to tell. The 630 may be dry clutch so it
would not matter.

Sorry to say, most of the engine has been stripped.

Where is the salvage yard, is the engine a gasser
and is the block in OK shape, no cracks, etc. ??

In Sikeston , mo. Looks like the engine was stripped and removed from tractor years ago. Head missing, cam and crank removed. Big crack on one side of the block.

Thanks for response, I would even be interested in
a bare block if it were in usable shape, but I
already have a block with 2 hairline freeze cracks
that JB weld has sealed. Doesn't leak but they
could in the future.

Jean Claude, do you have a good PTO shaft out of a dry clutch 630? I thought I had mine fixed with some shaft repair paste I got from a vendor at work, but it has started weeping again during use.

The original shaft was badly pitted from corrosion and leaked past the seal. Repair paste has slowed it down considerably but it still drools when I bush hog.
