411b transmission problem

Bought a 411b moves in all gears great in low gears ok in high gears with full throttle. If i want to shift I have to turn tractor off or it won't go in. The clutch doesn't do anything either. Any help would be appreciated!

Could be a number of things. Easiest thing to check is to make sure that when you depress the clutch pedal, both valve spools in the valve body, under the fuel tank, left side, should be all the way into the body. If the linkage is hooked up & working, the clutch pressure should drop immediately. Theoretically, it should drop to close to zero, but I have never had one drop that low. Check those out & get back.

The 411B is a converter driven tractor with a manually controlled direct drive lockup. To put it in gear it must be idling. To start the tractor moveing, you let the inching spool/ clutch pedal out, and then throttle up like yo you do with your PU with auto trans. Once you are up and moveing you pull the lever on RH side of dash down and it locks the converter solid. If you apply load to the tractor and it bogs the engine down, you flip up the lever and you are back into converter drive and the converter will continue to apply torque to the trans, (up to 3.14 times the torque transmitted in direct drive until converter stall), which it can if you are in too high a gear.
If the tractor creeps when you start it in gear and you can't hold it with the brakes, the DD clutch discs may be warped, I would recomend a tranny oil and filter change, and put Hytran in it. If you find a lot of brass filings in the drained oil, that might indicate warped clutches,But at this point I believe you need to learn to run the tractor.

When the clutch pedal is pressed the gage pressure will drop down to converter charge pressure, the reason for this is that converter pressure comes onto the back side of the piston to retract it from the plates.

As was pointed out it could be a lack of understanding on how the unit works and that you will be ok once the proper procedures are used to get it into gear, as also stated the plates could be warped in the main drive clutch on the rear of the unit.

Another possibility that I have experienced on a couple occasions is the cage of the rear bearing has come off the balls and went into the piston and is jamming the piston from returning. Make sure the engine is dropping back to a slow idle, those throttle linkages were not the best from new and wear doesn't help them. Keep us posted.
