DC ignition

Guy has me looking at his DC, he bought it not running just to help the neighbor out. I found the mag was dead, but cleaned a little and got a little tingle to the fingers but not much. All of the brass components are blue from corrosion and am finding out there isn't much to do but replace the case mag with a wico mag. Steiner's lists a wico that fits older cases, allis, and a few olivers. Haven't found anybody locally to borrow a mag to see if the tractor is worth messing with. Don't know if a complete distributor assembly from a later case or allis will work. Any pointers would be great. chris

Allis, Case and IH flange mount distributors will all interchange. I like the right angle Delco-Remy distributors. Nick

The best way to clean the brass parts is glass beading. if the case mag won't work after a good cleaning then you need a different one.

Case Dc mag is CW 25 degrees.

An IH H4 mag for a GAS farmall MODEL A-M is the same.

A fairbanks morse mag type j4b3 or x4b3 off an Allis B,C,WC,WD will work. they are CW 30 degrees.

distributors Off an Ih gas tractor Model A-450 will work.
delco distributor off a WC or WD will work. A wd45 WILL NOT WORK.

according to standard magneto there is a difference in case and IH mag angles. I have a wico off a SC that I wanted to put on my H but he stated it would run hot. just repeating what I was told.

If you time them correctly, you can run any of the mags listed on any DC or SC. I am a HUGE fan of mags, and have no use for distributors, but that is just me. I don't have a tractor on the the place, other then my 830, with a charging system. My DC will go well over a year without needing charged.

An Ih H4 magneto is cw 25 degrees. A Case JMA or model 41 are also 25 degrees CW rotation. They will interchange. I've done it.
A magneto for an Allis Chalmers will also work. There is only 5 degrees different. The slotted holes will adjust it out.

If your tractor didn't start. I'm guessing you timed it to the exhaust stroke.
