I've seen more than 1 with a different rear end. I combined 2 SCs a few years ago for a fellow. A 49 with a fresh engine and a 53 with a busted block. Split the tractor, change flywheels................

Your theory about it being stamped during the change over makes the most sense. I have never seen a 5 digit number before. Can you post some pics of the tractor? '53's normally have a roller draw bar and float ride seat. Most '53's have a foot clutch, but I have seen several '53's with hand clutch. Nick

According to Dave erbs full steam ahead. Case did renumber some of the Dc's. never heard of one having a five digit number. One of the workers could have made a mistake.

I might be seeing things here. if you look close at the number 7 stamped in the block. it almost looks like I can see a number 4 under the seven.

Don't know about odd serial number but my DC 'rear end' is on it's third 'front half'.. numbers match, no-way!

I know the tractor and can go look at some of the features to check them out. Will report back later.

That is a real odd one for sure, have you checked with CASE for the build card? I am wondering if you will have to add "80" like was stated below, I have to wonder how it got past with 5 digits? you would think someone would have noticed it, I mean they stamped the plate and the flange the same,, I have a couple here that they all but missed the end of the serial plate and stamped over the hole but I can see this one was not like that

Ok guys I looked at the tractor in question this afternoon. The draw bar is not the roller bar type and the seat is not a float ride seat. My personal opinion is that somehow the 80 got left off on this tractor. Do not know how it got past the inspectors.

Ok so what type of seat does it have? been changed out you think? both brake pedals on the RH side? foot clutch? live pto? I was hoping for a pic

The seat has a spring under it. No torsion unit. It does look original thou. The clutch is a hand clutch. Both brake pedals are on the right.Clutch is on the left side. Not sure on the PTO. The tractor is currently not running. I do not have the ability to do pics. case1939/ Bruce is going to stop next week and look at the tractor. Maybe he can post some pics.Has the eagle hitch .

I have a Eagle hitch tractor that has the pan seat but it is a 51 and does not have live PTO nor does it have the brakes on the rh side. it does have dual hyd and hand clutch, the serial on yours if you add the "80" makes it a 53, but the pan seat,,,, I wonder if they could order the torsion delete or if it was changed out new even? sure is a oddity any way you look at it

My theory is that this is the very first tractor at serial number change over. The guy stamping is under the gun to get it on down the line and has not been told what the new scheme will be and the number stamped is the next in sequence but he knows 57 is not right. He stamps the sequence number and sends her on down the line. OR it may be the last one of the old sequence and he doesn't know if he is supposed to stamp old scheme or new.

Would be really interesting to look at the build cards on change over day and see what the last traditional 7 digit number was and what the first 80 number was, could clear things up and I think this makes the tractor a real collectors item, like mis-stamped coins. What ever the outcome its a keeper!

If it is a hand clutch, live power with brakes on the right it should be a 1952 which would start with 56xxxx. Was hand clutch an option in 53?
