DC seat issues

I have a 1953 DC-3. When I purchased it a year ago, it had the original rubber torsion springs. They were blown out. So, I ordered a new one along with the two side brackets. Had them installed. Ran it 4 hours and they blew out again.

The supplier sent me another set...installed them and 4 hours later same thing...complete blow out.

Thoughts?

Blow Out - They went from one piece to two pieces, like they were unwound. Destroyed...disintegrated...no longer usable...you pick the word.

How did you rivet the side plates onto the springs? Is it possible that the seat linkage is put together wrong and increasing the stress on the springs? Is the seat channel bent or has anything been repaired/welded?
The rear housing cover should be installed so that the little round pad is at the front side (nearest the front of the tractor). Also, you should be able to completely assemble the linkage without any preload on the spring, and then add the preload with the big knob on top of the seat channel.

The set I put on my 800 lasted less then 5 years. My DC has had the "new"ones on it for well over 10. They both sit out side, and both get used about the same.
The boss wasn't impressed that she had to pay for another set of rubbers.

What you have are parts with poorly made rubber. The delamination is caused when the rubber is not properly handled during the compression molding phase. These parts are made by stacking sheets of rubber disks and compressing them with high pressure and heat in a mold.If they used too much mold releasing medium and it squeezed into the laminations you could have this failure, getting impurities between the layers and several other things.
