Please help I borrowed a case 930 to run a grain dryer when I turned on the pto and turned on the fan on the dryer the tractor let out a loud squeal and died now when I start the tractor and release the clutch the tractor dies won't idle will only rum while holding the clutch can someone please help me with this issue never seen anything like this before.

Possibly twisted the PTO shaft off where it goes through the transmission, and seized it to the tube it goes through. I have twisted several off that way, but they never seized. They did split the transmission input shaft though.

Have to agree with Dkase - we twisted off the shaft inside when running on the chopper before. Our brake on the PTO never quite worked - seeing the pto not spinning gave it away.

Will it move if the range lever is put into the neutral position, I have seen some that the range gears seize to the shaft and lock them up, a squeal is heard when that occours. The pto drives direct from the engine so holding the clutch in would not make it quit binding, I'm guessing the range gears seized but have been wrong a lot of times.

When you mentioned it made a squeal before the engine killed makes me believe the Hi-Lo gears welded themselves to the 4-speed trans input shaft they spin on. Have seen this happen before and will happen when doing stationary PTO work. Very possible you can not get it shifted into either Hi or Lo. Have tractor in gear on the 4 speed and try to pull tractor with Hi-Lo in neutral, it should move easily, if not they are froze on the shaft and the fact it kills by letting clutch out confirms that. Tractor needs to be split and the only way those gears come off is with a torch in pieces. Cause is lack of lube, generally operating to low in trans oil. Rod.

Yes it will die because like Mel and I mentioned the gears in the Hi-Lo are probably froze on the shaft, Rod.

This isn't going to be a pretty senario, as I have to agree with Mel and Rod.
You are going to have to pull the cover off the tranny and more than likely take the torch to the range gears and shaft and cut them out of the gearcase and then find replacments and bearings.

Ouch! this doesn't sound good and its a borrowed tractor to boot.

I hope this never happens to one of my 930's because I agree with everyone about the gears being welded to the range shaft. Its not going to be a pretty sight.

To me a 930 is easier to work on than some other models and a 930 is worth fixing.

I don't know who owns this tractor but it may be cheaper to see if you can buy the tractor
