The belt pulley on my 49 VA runs constantly until the clutch is depressed. Is there a way to disengage. There is a lever coming up from bottom of what appears to be a hydraulic pump. This lever I think is to operate the small hydraulic cylinder that operates the three point hitch. Not working.

Any ideas.

With belt pulley hydraulic pump you can not disengage the belt pulley.
On belt pulley assemblies w/o hydraulics you can slide the shaft in or out to engage or disengage. These will fit your tractor or you can remove your assembly and install the factory cover plate or make one. Nick

Great, thanks for the reply. Any idea why the cylinder does not extend when the control is activated? What type of oil is required? How do I check if there is sufficient fluid in the pump?

The factory manual probably called for motor oil. We always used dextron automatic transmission fluid in ours. There is a fill plug on top, I think if you unscrew it there will be a dipstick attached to it. Let me know if you still have problems getting the lift to work. I've spent quite a bit of time running a VAC with the belt pully pump.

There is a lockout bolt on the back of the pump reservoir that points up at an angle toward the brake pedals that is used to prevent the pump from running when not needed. You might try backing it out and see if the lift works. The factory manual calls for 10W non detergent motor oil in the lift, and there is a dipstick under the large plug/breather on top of the reservoir. The pulley shaft runs whenever the clutch is engaged, but a sheet metal cover was furnished to cover the end of the shaft after removing the pulley.
