I did it last 30yrs ago. I don't remember the sequence, and I don't want to mess up whats already there. I have 4 from front to back, that are up with the right amount of gap. the other 4 are down up, down up.

When I set the valve gap on an old engine, I do it cylinder-by-cylinder. I crank the engine until a cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke, and then set the gap on both valves.

Bring No1 piston near the radiator to TDC on the compression stroke. Then adjust valves counting from the radiator nos. 1-2-3 & 5 to .016" cold.

Then rotate the engine 360° and then adjust valves 4-6-7 & 8. Hal

got it done. Sounds better, but the plugs are oiled down from me putting trans oil in the cyl bores.
