1070 starter in 930?

Pretty sure you need to change the nose if I remember right. I did it once trying to whirl one over faster. Don't remember it making that much difference, but it was many 930s back

We have a 451 from an 1175 in front of an 830 comfortking case-o-matic and I am certain we used the starter from the 1175.

I think the nose of the starter is eccentric. If you look at the noses some have different offsets in the flange that contacts the block. Therefore they could have a different number of teeth as long as the distance between them is the same. I think the rule is diesel to diesel and gas to gas when it comes to ring gears and starters.

We put the starter in today and tried it and it worked! So things must line up or it would not have worked right?
