401 diesel 3rd stage filter

Does anyone have any thoughts on what would cause the bottom to blow out of this filter?

There is a relief on top of the rear filter body that should bypass excessive pressure. It is a tall fitting with lines to it. I have never hear of having issues with them but thats where I would start

My 500 did the exact same thing this summer and it was the return relief valve that was stuck just like MEL mentioned.

My big 400 did the same thing. In my case it was the previously mentioned relief valve being stuck. This forum is truly an amazing place. Dale
